The documentary titled ‘The Bulldogs’ has just unveiled its first trailer ahead of its premiere at the Slamdance festival, set to kick off later this month. This intriguing feature-length film provides an intimate look into the lives of residents from a small town in Ohio, who are still reeling from the impacts of a catastrophic chemical train derailment that occurred in 2023.
In this compelling portrayal, the film captures how the community’s inhabitants confront their fears and uncertainties about the future, all while navigating the intense media scrutiny that surrounds them. Among the diverse cast of characters featured is a retiree who conducts cardio-drumming classes for elderly women and has taken the initiative to start a podcast, sharing uplifting stories about East Palestine. Additionally, the documentary introduces a local chiropractor who becomes an activist and decides to run for a seat in Congress.
The narrative weaves through everyday moments, including high school football games and festive variety shows, highlighting the humor and warmth found in the simple experiences that bind the community together. Directed and produced by the talented duo Noah Dixon and Ori Segev, who have deep connections to the region, ‘The Bulldogs’ was filmed over an extended period following the derailment.
