A Sad Farewell: The End of an Iconic Makeup Brand
The beauty industry has lost a beloved name, and the news has left many fans heartbroken. Mally Beauty, the iconic makeup line founded by renowned celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal, is closing its doors. This announcement, made via Instagram, has sent shockwaves through the beauty community.
"The beauty industry faces new challenges, and we've made the difficult decision to wind down Mally Beauty," the brand stated. But here's where it gets controversial: the brand's closure comes at a time when the industry is facing multiple hurdles, from tariffs to shifting market trends.
For now, Mally's products will remain available on Amazon and QVC, but supplies are limited. This is a bittersweet moment for beauty enthusiasts, as they rush to grab their favorite Mally products before they disappear.
Mally Roncal's journey began years ago when she debuted her line on QVC, working with celebrities like Beyoncé, Kelly Osbourne, and Jennifer Lopez. Her debut collection, which sold out in just 40 minutes, included lip gloss, cheek powders, and a brush kit, offering a glimpse into the world of celebrity makeup.
The brand's rise was rapid, with counters opening at Henri Bendel and later expanding to major retailers like Ulta Beauty, Kohl's, and Nordstrom. Key products like the Poreless Face Defender balm and Evercolor eye shadow sticks became cult favorites.
However, Mally Beauty faced challenges in the mid-2010s, eventually filing for bankruptcy in 2015. It was acquired by Beauty Visions and later received investment from Guthy-Renker Ventures, but the brand's struggles continued.
In 2021, Mally was acquired by AS Beauty, a company known for revitalizing struggling brands. Unfortunately, Mally's closure is part of a larger trend, with several other beauty brands shutting down in recent years. Sknmuse, Youthforia, Ami Colé, and even Gwyneth Paltrow's Good.clean.goop have all ceased operations.
And this is the part most people miss: Mally's co-founder, Joey Shamah, hinted last December that the brand might be sunsetted. Other brands in the AS Beauty portfolio, like Laura Geller and Bliss, have undergone successful turnarounds, but Mally's fate was sealed.
The beauty industry is ever-evolving, and sometimes, even iconic brands face an uncertain future. What do you think led to Mally Beauty's closure? Share your thoughts and let's discuss the challenges and changes facing the beauty industry today!
