The Ohio State Buckeyes just landed a significant transfer addition to their wide receiver corps, and it's a familiar face for one of their coaches. Former LSU wide receiver Kyle Parker has committed to Ohio State, reuniting with his ex-position coach, Cortez Hankton.
A Star Returns to His Roots
Parker, a redshirt junior, is coming off a solid season at LSU, hauling in 31 receptions for 330 yards and four touchdowns. He was a highly touted recruit in the class of 2023, ranked 330th overall and 47th among wide receivers. Now, he's ready to take his talents to Columbus, Ohio, with two years of eligibility remaining.
Standing at 5-foot-11, Parker primarily played in the slot at LSU, and this is likely where he'll line up for the Buckeyes. However, this position is already occupied by Brandon Inniss, last year's starting slot receiver. But here's where it gets interesting...
Parker has a unique connection to Ohio State that goes beyond football. He attended Lovejoy High School in Lucas, Texas, the same school that produced current Buckeyes linebacker Payton Pierce. Parker was just one grade above Pierce, and their shared history could create an instant bond within the team.
A Talent-Rich Wide Receiver Room
Parker is the second wide receiver to transfer to Ohio State from the portal, joining Devin McCuin, formerly of UTSA. McCuin's speed and athleticism make him a slot candidate, but with Inniss and Parker's history in that position, the competition for the Z receiver spot will be fierce. Incoming freshman Chris Henry Jr., a five-star recruit, could also challenge for playing time at an outside receiver position.
The Buckeyes needed to replenish their receiver depth after losing several key players to the transfer portal, including Bryson Rodgers, Quincy Porter, Mylan Graham, Damarion Witten, and Bodpegn Miller. With Parker's addition, they've secured a proven talent who can contribute immediately.
Ohio State's 2026 receiver room will also feature rising junior Jeremiah Smith, the team's top performer, along with Inniss and two redshirt freshmen, Phillip Bell and De'Zie Jones. The incoming freshman class includes four-star recruits Jerquaden Guilford and Jaeden Ricketts, as well as three-star Brock Boyd, who will all vie for playing time.
A New Era for the Buckeyes?
With the addition of Parker and other talented transfers, Ohio State is shaping up to have a dynamic and competitive wide receiver group. But will this be enough to propel them to the top of the college football rankings? And how will the team's chemistry evolve with so many new faces? These are questions that will keep fans and analysts engaged throughout the upcoming season.
